Have you got some time on your hands? thumbnail

To try and keep the nation smiling and entertained in these difficult times, The Happy Puzzle Company has been running lots of competitions and posting free puzzles through social media. As Gavin Ucko, the company's Managing Director says: “Anything we can do to make people smile is a help.”

And now, these puzzles have been made available to TNP.MEDIA to spread a bit of boredom-busting cheer. Be sure to follow The Happy Puzzle company on Facebook @HappyPuzzle and enter these fun weekly competitions!

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s competition

Be warned.... this is a serious challenge, and I mean a serious challenge!

This wordsearch is a ‘snaking wordsearch’. That means that if an answer contains more than one word, it MIGHT change direction between words. It will only ever change direction at the end of one word, or the beginning of the next word. The words can go backwards, forwards or diagonally in any direction.

I have given you an example to help. We will come back to that in a moment.

The wordsearch includes 36 famous literary works by extremely well-known authors. The example I have shown is ‘Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator’ which is of course by Roald Dahl. That example counts as one of the 36.

This is how the competition works - and remember to stay focussed on the fact that you have 36 things to find. When you have found them.... you will need to know the authors and then...

1) Add up the number of literary works in the puzzle by Charles Dickens

2) To this number, add the number in the puzzle written by Agatha Christie

3) Once you have that number, multiply it by the number of literary works in the puzzle by Ernest Hemingway

4) To this number, add the number of literary works in the puzzle by Roald Dahl

5) Multiply this number by the number of works in the puzzle by C.S. Lewis

6) Then subtract the total combined number of works in the puzzle by the Brontë sisters

7) Multiply this number by the number of literary works in the puzzle by Mark Twain

Click HERE to view a printable version of the wordsearch.

The answer now is your answer to this competition!

This is how to enter: First, follow @HappyPuzzle on Facebook! Then, for the chance to win a £25 Happy Puzzle voucher, you will need to email the number that is your answer.

Email your answer to competitions@happypuzzle.co.uk together with your name. One correct entry will be chosen at random after the closing date (11.59pm on Monday 27 April 2020). Our decision is final!
