Smiffys, a leading fancy dress manufacturing company in the UK, has committed to donate 20 per cent of revenue generated from the sale of its VE Day products to the NHS Charities Together campaign in aid of the Covid-19 Urgent Appeal.
VE Day stands for Victory in Europe Day, which took place on 8 May 1945. The day celebrates the end of the Second World War, as it was on this day in 1945, that the act of military surrender was officially signed by the Flensburg Government in Berlin.
The day saw more than a million people take to the streets in the UK, joined by many more across the world, celebrating the end of World War II.
Thousands of brits continue mark VE Day each year, with celebrations and parties.
This year, 2020, marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day, and the Early May Bank Holiday has been moved to coincide with the day. And, while the main celebration events for VE Day have been postponed this year, Smiffys is encouraging people to still celebrate the occasion at home.
In a statement published online, Smiffys said: “We think a themed picnic in your own garden would be perfect for this! If you would like to dress up for this occasion, check out our costumes.”
Donning a VE Day Fancy dress outfit from Smiffys may well be the perfect way to add some style to the occasion – plus you’ll be helping to support a good cause.
