The Entertainer and Smyths Toys reintroduce a click and collect service thumbnail

At the end of April, the Government confirmed that retailers could operate click-and-collect services as long as self-distancing guidelines could be followed, and customers did not have to enter stores to pick up their purchases.

In the last few days, both Smyths Toys and The Entertainer have reintroduced a click and collect service.

Smyths Toys announced the news on its website with new rules and guidelines for customers. Available in all but five stores across the UK – the service is not available at the Leeds Kirkstall, Llandudno, Salisbury, Inverness and Forestside stores – the toy retailer is offering same day ‘Click and Collect’ on orders placed before 15:00.

To limit footfall, and minimise risk, customers must only attend the store if they have a ‘Ready for Collection’ email. And in accordance with Government guidelines, customers may not enter the store. Smyths customers are asked to queue at the designated points outside the store and respect social distancing, keeping at least two metres from other shoppers. Refunds, exchanges and additional sales are not currently being offered on-site.

The Entertainer’s ‘Zero Contact Click & Collect’ service will be available at 89 of its stores – click here for the full list.

Designed to keep its customers and colleagues safe, the stores are only operating a click and collect service – refunds, exchanges and additional sales are not being offered offline.

The retailer says online that customer orders will be ready to collect in 30 minutes if stock is already in store. If the stock needs to come from its warehouse, customers will be able to collect within two working days. Customers will be advised how long they will need to wait when they go to their basket.

Customers will receive two emails – the first an order confirmation, the second a ready for collection notification. Customers are asked not to attend the store until they receive confirmation that their order is ready for collection.

Collections can be made between 09:30-17:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Stores may be closed for lunch between 12:30-13:00.

Like Smyths Toys, customers collecting orders at The Entertainer stores must keep at least two metres apart if there is a queue. They are asked to call the store telephone number on arrival, so that a staff member can open the door and place the customer’s order down for collection.
