Official toy testers from children’s hospitals across the country will review toys for the Amazon Playmakers catalogue

Amazon Australia’s new toy catalogue is curated by kids thumbnail
Amazon Australia has handpicked a group of children from hospitals across the country to curate a list of toys for inclusion in a limited-edition toy catalogue.

Known as the Amazon Playmakers, the group of kids will become official toy testers for the online marketplace and review its top 100 toys. Their recommendations will be used to form the core of the Amazon Playmakers catalogue, available on the Amazon website from November.

As part of the initiative, Amazon will donate $40,000 AUS in toys and games to Starlight Express Rooms, which provides medical-free play spaces to give sick children a reprieve from their medical treatments.

Louise Baxter, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation, says the initiative “will add something very special to the festive season for these sick kids at a time when they need it most”.

Amazon will also be donating $5 to the foundation for each toy bought from the catalogue during this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions, and is delivering bundles of toys to children’s hospitals in Queensland, Perth and other cities across Australia.

Randwick Children’s Hospital in Sydney was the first to receive a shipment, hand delivered by Home and Away actor Johnny Ruffo, an ambassador of the programme who battled brain cancer in 2017 and has since been given a clean bill of health.

“As someone who knows the ups and downs of being in and out of hospital, I’m honoured to join in on this initiative and highlight the amazing work that the Starlight Children’s Foundation does,” the actor says.

"We are incredibly proud to continue supporting the Starlight Children’s Foundation through the release of our Amazon Playmakers toy catalogue that gives back this holiday season,” says Matt Furlong, Country Manager of Amazon Australia.

"We hope that the opportunity to become an official toy tester helps brighten the holidays for these children, and we look forward to hearing their expert opinions.”
