Mattel is returning to Castle Grayskull by the power of Netflix in an animated reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
A new CG animated series will reimagine the 80s cartoon classic with all-new storylines and a modern take on the series’ iconic characters, including heroic warrior He-Man and arch-nemesis Skeletor.
The series will join a previously announced 2D He-Man anime series Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a feature film, comic book series from DC Comics and toy range hitting shelves in the second half of this year.
Fred Soulie, Senior Vice President of Content Distribution and Business Development, Mattel, says: “Masters of the Universe is one of the most iconic global franchises of all time, with a 30-year history and a passionate fan base.
“The entire team at Mattel is excited to introduce the world of He-Man to a new generation and, together with the talented team at Netflix, to reimagine the classic characters in a way that appeals to kids and families today, while also resonating with the fans who grew up with them.”
Mattel promises a return to the back-and-froth between He-Man and Skeletor as they “forge new and mighty teams” to create a new generation of heroes vying to become the Masters of the Universe.
The series is being produced by Mattel Television and was developed by Rob David, the lead writer on several animations for Mattel’s Max Steel property.
