Imitation Bunch O Balloons detained at port in Rotterdam, the Netherlands
[UPDATED: 24/05/17: This story originally reported 1 million items were seized. It has since been discovered that the customs notice of the original seizure was mistakenly reported. The error was due to a miscommunication from Dutch customs, and we have updated the story accordingly.]
Zuru has blocked an importer from bringing one million pieces of rapid-fill water balloon product into the Netherlands.
The product has been detained under Dutch anti-piracy laws on the basis that it is alleged to infringe upon Zuru’s IP.
The product, stopped at the port in Rotterdam, is said to be an imitation of Zuru’s phenomenally successful Bunch O Balloons. Bunch O Balloons won the 2016 Nuremberg Toy Award in the School Kids category and has enjoyed phenomenal commercial success in the Netherlands and other European countries.
Zuru, with the assistance of an army of authorised distributors in Europe, says it is stalwart in its efforts to keep counterfeit product out of Europe, including monitoring and stopping counterfeits at the border and aggressive enforcement of its intellectual property rights through the courts.
