Hugh Bonneville, Griff Rhys Jones OBE, Rupert Everett, Cressida Bonas, Ruth Jones and Jane Horrocks are just some of the household names lending their support to the new Record & Share for the NHS campaign, created by kids’ audio system tonies to raise funds for NHS Charities Together.

Every day, since the launch of the campaign on 28 April, a star has shared a reading of their favourite children’s story or poem with fans, across tonies social channels via video and audio recordings for everyone to enjoy for free.

Kicking off with a reading from actor Rupert Everett, Brits have also been able to enjoy readings such as The Gruffalo from Suki Waterhouse and a Grimm fairy tale from Sir Derek Jacobi CBE. A narration of Cautionary Tales from Jane Horrocks will also be sure to delight children and adults alike.

The stellar line up also includes stories and poems told by key workers, including police, firefighters and nurses and was kicked off with supermarket worker Sheila French sharing her favourite children’s poem by Edward Lear.

Comedian Griff Rhys Jones says: “We all love stories. And children love stories. Let’s never forget when we are searching for another box set to binge on how we used to love hearing the same stories over and over again. At the moment we all owe a debt to the front-line people at the NHS. We should pause a moment to think what that means. They face the hardest working conditions. … [and] we must do all we can to support and help them. Telling a little story is nothing to me. But could be everything to them if you will support this appeal.”

Manon Sel, UK general manager at tonies, says: “As families across the UK are braced for a summer of social distancing, we wanted to do something to not only entertain and inspire children, but also raise money for our amazing NHS staff, volunteers and key workers who are working tirelessly to care for Covid-19 patients.

“This campaign seemed like the perfect way to both entertain and inspire children, adding that little spark into their everyday lives during this difficult time. We hope to continue to bring even more stories to life with familiar voices and allow families, if only for a moment, to forget what is going on around them and get lost in the magic of storytelling.”

The audio company has made a donation to kick off the fundraising drive and is hoping the public will get involved and contribute a small amount of money in return for the storytelling sessions. All donations made through the Tonies Key Workers Support Fund will be donated to NHS Charities Together, going towards creating wellbeing packs for staff and volunteers, providing devices for isolated patients to communicate with loved ones whilst in hospital and supporting the mental health of those affected by Covid-19.
