It is with great sadness that we report the death of former toy agent Roy Gray, who passed away aged 77, on 15 June 2020, following a short illness.
Roy started his career in the toy industry in the mid-sixties, having previously worked as a DJ for several years – a job that saw him befriended by a new, up-and-coming band, called The Beatles!
In the early years of Roy’s career, the toy businesses was dominated by many independent toy retailers. Roy founded a successful agency business covering Yorkshire and the North East of England, ably supported by his wife Greer.
He represented Britains, Browns of Leicester (now Peterkin), Adam Leisure, and Cheryl Playthings. And, more recently, he worked for a number of years with Lindam and Cosatto.
Roy was a model professional. He was always immaculately dressed and never seen without a kerchief in his top jacket pocket. He was a very hard worker and an excellent salesman.
After more than 40 years in the industry, Roy retired from toys in 2008. He spent his retirement gardening, ballroom dancing, and pursuing his foremost passion, fly fishing.
Roy made many lifelong friends in the toy industry and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Greer and son Simon.
Rest in peace Roy.
