Kind + Jugend, the international trade fair for children, toddler and baby equipment, was due to take place again this year from 16-19 September in Cologne. However, Koelnmesse – the organisers of the event – have now issued a statement to confirm that the show will not take place this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a recent letter sent to visitors of Kind + Jugend, the organisers said that although there had been strong registration figures for the fair in spring 2020, the developments around Covid-19 and the current economic situation had become increasingly reflected in the increasing number exhibitors and visitors that had decided not to attend Kind + Jugend.
Koelnmesse had been working with the authorities to explore measures that could be implemented to allow trade fairs to run safely under coronavirus conditions. Nonetheless, the continuing crisis and the associated economic difficulties and concerns for employee health has led to further hesitation amongst exhibitors and trade visitors alike.
The latest news about new cases of infection in Germany has also played a role in the decision to cancel the 2020 event
In the letter, the organisers say: “We had carefully reassessed the overall situation and decided to meet the cancellations and wishes of exhibitors and visitors from the industry, and to suspend this year’s edition of Kind + Jugend. This was a very difficult decision for us.
“Particularly leading trade fairs such as Kind + Jugend require a certain completeness where exhibitor and visitor attendance are concerned. Internationality at the European and global levels has an important role to play for this trade fair.”
The letter confirms that visitors who have pre-purchased their entry tickets will be refunded. Koelnmesse will centrally issue these refunds in the coming weeks. There is nothing further for ticket buyers to do.
