Cartamundi has acquired The United States Playing Card Company, kicking off its 50th anniversary year in style.
The move brings the Bicycle, Bee, Hoyle and Fournier – which turns 150 this year – brands under the privately owner Belgian card giant’s umbrella, strengthening its position in the global market.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
“This is an exciting time for Cartamundi,” says Stefaan Merckx, Cartamundi’s CEO. “The addition of USPC immediately allows us to take advantage of growing playing card sales in the US.”
The merger also brings greater stability to Cartamundi’s European business, particularly in Spain where USPC is a market leader, and “fits perfectly in our plans for strategic growth,” Stefaan says.
Michael Slaughter, CEO, United States Playing Card Company, adds: “Our commitment to delighting consumers, cardists, magicians and casino players with world-class quality remains our mission.”
