Last month, Warner Bros confirmed that the new Scooby-Doo movie SCOOB! was to skip its cinema release, amid the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, the entertainment giant promised to make SCOOB! available for both Premium Video on Demand and Premium Digital Ownership on 15 May – its original release date – in the US and Canada. Its UK release is yet to be confirmed.
While the UK waits in anticipation for the new premier date for SCOOB!, Character Option's Marketing Manager Mark Hunt has shared with TNP some key details about the upcoming master toy range.
Tell us a bit about Character Options' master toy range for SCOOB!
The new range is a fantastic representation of some of the iconic figures and new characters from the SCOOB! movie, including Dick Dastardly, Muttley, Blue Falcon and Rottens – characters who featured heavily in the trailer, which looked amazing! We also have the new Mystery Machine with roof rack, which folds out into a playset and comes with a fully articulated 5in Shaggy figure. When designing the range, we kept to the core play patterns, so kids could collect, recreate scenes from the movie, or create their own mystery solving adventures.
Why is this a particularly exciting time to be the master toy partner for Scooby-Doo?
We’ve been master toy for Scooby-Doo for 20 years now, it’s our longest serving brand so it’s great to see Scooby-Doo opened up to a whole new generation of fans. The trailer really enthused retailers at preview and our new range was very well received.
What are you doing to help promote the launch of your new SCOOB! range?
We plan to deliver stand-out POS materials at launch including FSDUs to create impact at retail. Our marketing campaign will focus on social media to build awareness and online chatter about the range as well as short stop frame animations that will be seeded across retail and key kids’ digital platforms in line with Warner’s own movie marketing activity.
Tell us about the development process behind the new SCOOB! range?
It’s been fun working with Warner Bros on redesigning our classic items to align with the movie-specific detailing. The new style guide has given the brand a fresh new look, which will really help the range stand out on the shelf. We knew it was important for the range to appeal to the new SCOOB! fans, without it losing the fun factor of classic Scooby-Doo!
