Lema’s owner Malcolm Naish – who many of you know from his 60-plus years in the industry and as the first recipient ever of the Golden Teddy – knew that TnP need to provide readers with a different way of consuming our much-applauded content. Malcolm and I, along with the company directors Mark and Paul Naish, knew that the best way to do this was to partner with an expert in the field.
Which is how we came to enter a wonderfully exciting partnership with David Ross of The Media Team. Some of you may know David from his Dad’s Choice Awards, or his time filming with us each year at Toy Fair for TnP TV, while others may know him from his portfolio of hugely successful online titles such as HEXUS.net and SickChirpse, a site that’s not for the faint-hearted but well worth a look if you enjoy your daily fix of Brexit bufoonery spiked with some laughs and fresh takes.
The toy news feeds are always busy this time of year, such is the importance of the year’s first six weeks, but 2019 has already been chock full of company mergers and consolidation, C-suite reshuffles and, unfortunately, more retail casualties.
But there are reasons to celebrate. Innovation and creativity from trusted suppliers and retailers have given the industry plenty to be happy about, despite tumultuous trading conditions. For every disreputable manufacturer hawking cheap copycats or retailer looking to cash in on safety-flouting fakes, there are more than an equal amount of success stories. It is, then, business as usual for the toy business – but remaining up to date with the industry’s comings and goings has never been more vital.
David and I are joined by TnP’s former editor and long-time writer Rhys Thomas, and we’ll be working hard to make TNP.MEDIA a must-read every day, not just a homepage with a few press releases hastily copied and pasted each morning. I can’t wait to share more with you all in the coming days, weeks and, of course, at London Toy Fair.
