Toymaster hosted its inaugural awards evening in Harrogate last night with a celebration of the people and businesses that have stood the test of time.
Set to a backdrop of live music, fine food and good company, five Toby Awards were handed out to retailers and toy professionals who have served the industry for decades – and in some cases a century.
The Mashall Agencies team were awarded in recognition of excellent service, while retailer Harpers of Penrith took home a gong in recognition of its 50 years in business. Dave Johnson was also recognised for his 30 years’ service at the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate, where the buying group’s event takes place each year.
Another Toby was awarded to Gibson Games, which this year celebrates its centenary, and Ciaran Fitzpatrick, Toymaster’s chairman, received a Toby to celebrate the 75th anniversary of his business.
The BTHA was also in a giving mood, and welcomed two industry stalwarts to the Golden Teddy Hall of Fame. They were Craig Richards from Mattel, who has worked in the industry for nearly 35 years, and Philip Richardson, the long-time Character Group rep who earlier this month announced his well-earned retirement.
Rounding out the evening, Toymaster Isle of Wight picked up their 25 Years Membership Award.
“Congratulations to all!” said Toymaster MD Ian Edmunds.
