Super Mario has been given the LEGO makeover in a cryptic tweet from LEGO and Nintendo’s main accounts, hinting at a new licensed range based on the video game icon.
The tweet went out yesterday, 10 March – or MAR10, Mario Day as Nintendo calls it, an annual day to celebrate its mascot with game sales, promotions and news on the latest Mario projects.
The accounts tweeted a seven-second video, panning upwards to show a blocky Mario, complete with his iconic blue undershirt and red dungarees.
LEGO captioned the post “Its-a me, LEGO Mario”, while Nintendo said: “Something fun is being built! Stay tuned…”
The video ends with a splash screen displaying LEGO and Super Mario logos.
With no confirmation over whether a range of Mario LEGO sets are in the works, online rumours have posited that a LEGO Mario video game could be in the works, or a collaboration between the two companies could produce a LEGO Mario Amiibo, Nintendo’s own range of toys that connect and interact with games on its Switch console.
