Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby have thrown their hat in the Christmas prediction ring, presenting a list of 12 top toys for the festive season on ITV’s This Morning.
The magazine show’s consumer editor Alice Beer and product demo guru Steve Wilson curated the list of a dozen toys they expect to make the biggest impact this shopping season.
Only one licensed toy made the list, the Star Wars D-O Interactive Droid, with the rest championing the best of original ideas across the industry. Updated classics like Pictionary Air was praised for being “everything that a family classic should be, with an up-to-date twist, which makes for a lot of laughs”, by Alice.
Other toys on the list that embrace technology to enhance play include LEGO Hidden Side, with its AR app, Fisher-Prices Linkimals Smooth Moves Sloth, which interacts with other toys in the pre-school range, and interactive pet Owleez. Steve said Owleez will make a splash thanks to the play value it offers as kids nurture theirs from fledgling to frequent flyer.
Elsewhere, Treasure X Kings Gold Treasure Tomb and Scruff A Luvs represented perhaps the biggest current trend in toys – surprise unboxings.
And pure tech toys aimed at making adult gadgets accessible for little ones will be big thanks to Tonies, the app-enabled story box, Osmo’s digital doodling Creative kit, and Coding Critters, which teaches the fundamentals of programming to even the youngest Zuckerberg wannabees.
