Not content with taking on the biggest fictional worlds through its licensed collectbales, Funko is getting into the business of creating original stories in a new series of books heading to retail this summer.

The book series will be based off designs and characters from Wetmore Forest, Funko’s own IP.

The brand was created to depict an enchanting forest and encourage exploration and discovery among Funko fans. Wetmore Forest is a relatively recent introduction, a fictional universe filled with colourful, wacky monsters such as big-eared Bugsy Wingnut and Tumblebee, a loveable oaf with gold and black stripes.

Funko fans will already know the main cast through Funko’s Pop! Monster collectable line, plush and keyrings.

The books will launch 15 June in partnership with Sterling Publishing. They will be available exclusively in-store and online from Barnes & Noble, alongside accompanying Funko merchandise.

“We’re excited to expand the storylines of our beloved Wetmore family through a book series available at the bookseller with the largest number of retail outlets in the United States,” said Senior Vice President of Global Sales, Johanna Gepford. “Children will be delighted to follow the adventures of characters created by the same creative geniuses that produce highly sought after Funko products.”

Funko will be showcasing the books at both the London Book Fair and Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
